Where to go out in Biarritz: restaurants, bars, clubs and activities, our top picks
Biarritz is three cities in one. In the morning, surfers at the Côte des Basques. In the afternoon, the Grande Plage and its stripes. In the evening, the terraces filling up for sunset, and the night starting late. We drew our entire Beauséjour Biarritz collection from it. Here are our addresses, no filter.
Opening hours and days change according to the season: check before you go, especially outside of July and August.
Where to eat in Biarritz

On the quay of the Port des Pêcheurs, a stone's throw from the water. Catch of the day, shellfish, seafood. You go there as much for the view as for the food. Book in summer.
Bar Jean — the tapas of the Halles
An institution near the Halles market. Pintxos at the counter, ham, red wine, a crowded and noisy atmosphere just the way it should be. Perfect for starting an evening.
Les Baigneuses — the Port Vieux
Rue du Port-Vieux. Market cuisine, a wine list as long as your arm, and a pétanque court. Open from breakfast until late.
Chéri Bibi — the neighborhood bistro
On the Beaurivage side. Market cuisine, local produce, natural wines. The kind of place you come back to twice in a week.
Le Carlos — feet in the sand
On the Côte des Basques, bohemian atmosphere. Guacamole, poke bowls, tataki, and the sun setting right in front of you.
AHPÉ and Dialogues — gourmet cuisine
For a more ambitious dinner: AHPÉ, Avenue du Président Kennedy, and Dialogues, Rue du Helder. Two creative kitchens spotted by le Fooding.
L'Impertinent — the big night out
Saint-Charles district. Michelin-starred, modern cuisine and local produce. For a special occasion.
For dinner on the terrace: the Bonsoir Biarritz T-shirt, a tribute to the long evenings of the Basque coast. Also in women's version.
Where to have a drink at sunset

A small shack perched above the Côte des Basques. Tapas, salads, and probably the best viewpoint in the city for the sunset. Open from April to October. Practical info.
Rooftop at the Hôtel de la Plage
Esplanade du Port Vieux. Californian decor, cocktails, ocean view. Arrive before 7 p.m. if you want a seat at the edge.
Olatua — the Atalaye gardens
World tapas, refined cocktails, and the sun descending on the Rocher de la Vierge. The bar opens in the late afternoon.
Transat Sky Bar
The rooftop of the Radisson Blu. View over the entire Atlantic, DJ sets in season.
Le Blue Cargo — a foot in Bidart
Ten minutes to the south, on Ilbarritz beach. Tapas, open-air dancefloor, house music. The go-to spot when Biarritz is full.
For pre-dinner drinks: the Biarritz Club T-shirt, with stripes inspired by beach huts. In red and women's version.
Where to go out at night: Biarritz nightclubs
Le Duplex
The most famous club in the city. DJ sets, themed evenings, crowds until the end of the night. Program.
Carré Coast
Avenue Édouard VII, facing the bay. Two rooms, two DJs, an electric blue dancefloor and electro all summer long.
Le Caveau
The historic spot, in the basement. More raw, more crowded, later.
La Rhapsodie and l'Opiom
Two alternatives: a chicer and more eclectic atmosphere at La Rhapsodie, more festive at l'Opiom.
On late summer evenings, the ocean cools down quickly. Keep a hoodie in your bag.
For leaving the club: the Bonsoir Biarritz Hoodie, also in women's version. Or the Biarritz Club Hoodie (women's).
What to do in Biarritz during the day
Surfing at the Côte des Basques
The birthplace of surfing in Europe. Long waves, perfect for learning. The schools are lined up at the top of the beach. At high tide, the beach disappears: check the schedules.
Walk to the Rocher de la Vierge
The footbridge over the waves, the statue, the sea spray. The symbol of the city, best done on a day with swell.
Climb the Lighthouse
248 steps for a view over the entire coast, from the Landes to Spain.
The Aquarium and the Cité de l'Océan
The rainy day plan. The Biarritz Aquarium, in an Art Deco building facing the Rock, and the Cité de l'Océan, to understand everything about the Atlantic.
Visit the Halles market
In the morning, sheep's cheese, Espelette pepper, ham, Basque cake. Eat on the spot, at the counter.
The Grande Plage and the Port des Pêcheurs
The striped tents, the Hôtel du Palais in the background, the small colorful houses of the port. The postcard, and the direct inspiration for our prints.
For a beach day: the Beauséjour Biarritz T-shirt, swimming pool and deckchair illustration, in white or red. Women's version in white and red. And for after swimming, the Beauséjour Biarritz Hoodie (women's).
