Men's bomber jacket: the Beauséjour take on the aviator jacket

The men's bomber jacket is the jacket you grab without thinking when heading out. It goes with jeans, chinos, joggers, and it holds up from September to April. At Beauséjour, we made three of them, and we wanted them simple: a clean cut, embroidery over the heart, and nothing that serves no purpose. The entire selection is in our men's bomber jacket collection.

The men's bomber jacket, where it comes from

Before becoming a basic, the bomber jacket was military equipment. The reference model, the MA-1, was developed in the 1950s for US Air Force pilots: lightweight, warm, with nothing to snag in a cockpit. Hence the ribbed collar, cuffs, and waist, which block out the air.

From the cockpit to the street

In the 70s and 80s, the aviator jacket left military bases. Punks, mods, and then skaters reclaimed it. Today, every streetwear brand has one in their wardrobe (Complex has done a good summary of its history). The men's bomber has become what the trench coat is to the classic wardrobe: a landmark.

The khaki bomber

The closest to the military original. The khaki bomber goes with almost anything that is beige, white, gray, or denim. If you only get one, this is it.

The black bomber

The black bomber is the city version. More sober, dressier. It goes over a shirt on a weeknight just as well as over a hoodie on the weekend.

The navy bomber

The latest addition. The navy blue bomber is softer than the black, less expected than the khaki. Perfect with raw denim.

What we put inside

We kept what makes a good bomber and removed the rest:

  • 1x1 ribbing at the collar, cuffs, and hem, to keep the wind out.
  • Exposed metal zip on the front.
  • Welt pockets with snap closures, so you don't lose anything.
  • An inside zippered pocket on the heart side for your phone or passport.
  • The Beauséjour planet embroidery on the chest, our only signature.

The fabric is 100% recycled polyester. Lightweight, it slips easily into a travel bag.

How to wear a men's bomber jacket

Casual look

An Essentiel white t-shirt, straight jeans, white sneakers. It's the simplest outfit in the world, and that's why it works.

Frequently asked questions about the men's bomber jacket

How to choose the size of your bomber?

The bomber should hit right at the waist, without pulling at the shoulders. If you are hesitating between two sizes, think about what you intend to wear underneath: a t-shirt or a thick sweatshirt.

Which season is a bomber for?

Autumn and spring, mostly. In winter, it is worn with a thick knit underneath.

Which color of men's bomber should you choose?

Khaki for a first bomber, black for the city, navy for a change.

A bomber to keep travels

At Beauséjour, we make clothes that keep memories. The bomber is the one you wear on the plane, the one you roll into a ball on a train seat, and the one you find years later with a museum ticket still in the pocket. Wear your memories.
